Hello from Grasmere in England's Lake District

I'm not doing a very good job of updating my journal from the trail, as although we usually have net access in the evening I have to share Britt's iPad with him, and we are pretty busy with other things. I can do a little with my Kobo e-reader, but there's no keypad (as there is for the iPad) so I'm disinclined to type much. However, I do manage to type a sentence or two most days to Facebook, and there are a few photos as well: http://www.facebook.com/ilanarama (publicly viewable - you don't need to be a fb friend or, I think, even have an account).

Went for a short run today - still easing my ankle into it - then a walk as I suddenly realized maybe possibly I should get some walking in, before my hiking vacation, too?!!

ETA after pic: Gahh, I'm gonna be in the relative vicinity in just a few weeks, wth! My area is going to be more farmed, but otherwise I expect similar hills-bordering-on-mountains.

I see it now! Beautiful. Hmm, is there grazing on that land? The grass is so short.

There are sheep ALL OVER. They are the local Herdswick type, small with very thick and coarse wool (and tasty meat).

We are having a great time! And woo, the Lake District is fabulous! And yes, you should practice walking. We have several in the group who should have practiced walking, too :-)

More sheep than in New Zealand?

I don't know if there are more, but they are all over - much of the walking routes are on private land, covered with sheep. By contrast, in NZ there were many ranchlands full of sheep, but on the various hiking tracks there were none. It seemed very strange to us to be hiking past grazing sheep.
