more photos: Tongariro National Park

I actually haven't uploaded them all yet, and I haven't labeled or captioned them yet, but I wanted to get some of these out here because they are just that nifty.

DSC01065

23 pictures (so far) 29 pictures of Tongariro National Park

Mostly while hiking the Northern Circuit and climbing Mt. Ngauruhoe and Mt. Tongariro; also a few from the Whakepapa Ski Area on Mt. Ruapehu.

you are my outdoorsy heroine

WOWSERS! This is so incredible!

I mean, I'm always impressed by your exploits. But this? Oh, and those giant trees. FAbulous!!!

Wow. You're oing a great job for the NZ tourist board, with the possible exception of all those things crawling on Britt. ;)

Any idea what that volcano (those volcanoes?) last erupted?

Hee, those bugs were ugly but didn't bite. And they were crawling all over me!

Tongariro (hmm, the remnants of which are most of the park, and that big cratery thing in the foreground - it no longer looks like a volcano, just bits of crater walls) last erupted in 186.

Ngaurahoe (the Mount Doom volcano) last erupted in 1975.

Ruapehu (the snow-covered volcano in the background) last erupted in September 2007. It goes every so often and wrecks the ski season.
