Hee, only part of that is Teva-tan. Most of that is the amazing dye effect of the red-clay infused water from the flash flood. If the photo went above mid-shin you'd see the "sock" line of high water.
The equipment is all strapped onto the boats, which of course makes it inconvenient to get into, but (theoretically, at least) if my boat were to tip or flip, everything should stay attached. When the canoe tipped in Gypsum Creek Rapid, the chairs were under straps that ran over the cooler, but the weight of the cooler pulled the straps away enough that the chairs could float away, because the straps didn't run through e.g. loops on the chairs. Everything on my boat and Britt's boat is not only strapped down to the raft frame, but also has a strap running through a handle or loop or something so that if it comes loose from the boat, at least it's attached somehow.
