bureaucracy in action
Mar. 7th, 2003 10:55 amSo the job finally got all settled -- telecommuting work for a group up at NCAR, my old workplace in Boulder. Except that the Human Resources Drones insist that I have to fill out an I-9 form -- proof I'm eligible to work in the US -- in person.
I have to drive 350 miles.
To fill out a stupid form.
And I used to work there four years ago!
Argghh. And the form has to be filled out, and proof furnished, within 3 days of starting the job, so I can't start work now with intention of visiting Boulder this summer.
But after two days of wrangling with them on the phone and by email, it looks as though they will grudgingly accept it if I overnight the filled-in form and my (original) passport to them. With luck, they might even send my passport back.
