Yup, snow. We went hiking (again with Rolf, although his wife decided not to come today) up Rolling Mountain, a rather misnamed (IMHO) 13,693 ft peak west of Silverton, and we got snowed on! Woo!

See me and Rolf and snow!

I am sadly behind in making a web page for last weekend's excellent adventure climbing the semi-technical Arrow Peak (13,808 ft) but you can see some advance pictures here:

I really will get around to making nifty web pages like I did for our Castilleja Lakes backpack, but, um, yeah. Soon.

PS to [livejournal.com profile] stalkme -- how did you find this journal? I don't mind you reading it, I'm just curious. (I'd rather the great run of people-in-general not go the other way round, if you take my meaning, but you and anybody else who knows my other persona are welcome to read these blatherings.)

Was looking for new people to add, saw you on someone's friends list, connected you to HP, was immediately envious of your outdoor adventures and years-long sailing trip ...

Am not watchful_entity or any of that ilk. Am secretly convinced, in fact, that all those lurker LJs are just BNF trolls teasing each other.

:)

There was snow in the Belford Group north of Buena Vista this Saturday too. Some of it came with thunder.

I hate the end of Fourteener season.

Yeah, we were going to descend by a rather interesting-looking ridge-run, but then the thunder started, and we decided that a quick descent was the better part of valor. Besides, we'd gone up by a nonstandard ridge route, so we still made a loop by descending what was probably the "standard" route (judging by the somewhat more-trodden-looking "trail").

Mmm, I remember a great weekend backpacking in and doing the Belford group. A beautiful spot. I remember being impressed by the sight of Ice Mountain, which I'd like to climb some day.

And you may be getting shut out of Fourteeners, but now you have an excuse to do Thirteeners...then Twelvers...then...well, I guess I need to climb Perins Peak (something above 8300 ft -- it's the hill right out of Durango) before they close it down in November for wildlife protection.

I think I'm going to end up taking this as an opportunity to stay in New Mexico and get to know the Manzanos and the Guadalupes.

We made a wrong turn on the way up Missouri Mountain and ended up on the wrong ridge, in sight of the summit but unable to get there in the time we had before turn-around. But the view was spectacular and helped me remember why I go hiking, apart from the scoreboard/little black book stuff.

This seems like a good post to leave a comment in. Thanks for the invite to this LJ! I love reading about outdoors stuff, and that it's from someone I know makes it even better.

Thanks!

Woo! Welcome. And, if you check the more recent entries, I did make a big elaborate web page about our climb of Arrow with lots and lots and lots of self-indulgent photos. Now I need to finish putting together the better Rolling Mt. photos.

Cool! I'm intending to look through it better once I have more time.

Thanks!
