Summary: I periodically fall like a collapsing skyscraper for some unattainable sex god.

I've had five major crushes -- I'm talking major major, can't sleep, can't think, fantasies completely out of control -- in the past thirteen years. (And let me tell you, children, crushes when you're thirtysomething, plus or minus, are even worse than the high school ones, because by this time you know exactly what you're doing, or could be doing.) They generally last from several months to a year or so, before gently fading away. I'll number them 0-4, and not just for computer geeky reasons.

#1 was a friend of a friend, an outdoorsy guy who was on some of the big group rafting and climbing trips my husband and I did. He lived about an hour away. I knew him mostly through Usenet. He wasn't particularly good-looking, although I thought he looked a bit like Harrison Ford, and I have no idea why I became obsessed with him. He never knew.

#2 was another person I met via Usenet. He also lived about an hour away. I found his writing incredibly sexy, and when I met him in real life, I found him incredibly sexy too despite a substantial age difference. Unfortunately, he was also attracted to me, which was a problem since I was married and he was amoral. Fortunately, by this time I had gotten a handle on my sequential crush problem and was able to enjoy but resist the temptation. Some of you know who he is, and others of you may be able to guess from the description.

#3 ditto ditto Usenet etc., although we have other ties as well. I have so far never met him in real life, although we've tried twice. He was totally uninterested in me other than as a friend, but was very sweet when I confessed my silly crush, and we are still friends. Some of you know who he is, and you know who you are too, sweetie.

#4, who I've been obsessed with now for about a week, is a fictional character. 'Nuff said. You can probably figure out who it is.

Speaking of which, just in case you haven't figured out who #0 is: we've been married for just under 12 years, now.

Agreed! :-(

"They generally last from several months to a year or so, before gently fading away."

I'm still trying to figure out how to handle one that's been going on for a few years now. For the first year and a half I kept telling myself, "This will fade Real Soon Now, I'm sure." *sigh* It's still here.
