Some of you know I'm involved in our local community theatre (which is, like, always spelled 'theatre' for reasons of pretentiousness, even though the word is 'theater' in the US, isn't it?). Last night was the opening night of our latest one-act, The Smell of the Kill, and I am the star, the star, I tell you! Yay we had 40 people in the audience! And a good review (with pictures, even!)

Britt: So what's it about?
Ilana: Three women who debate whether or not to kill their husbands by not letting them out of the meat locker they accidentally got locked into.
Britt: What? My wife is debating whether to kill me?
Ilana: I'm the one who doesn't want to kill them.
Britt: Well, that's good.
Ilana: But in the end I change my mind.
Britt: Um...I love you?

He's coming tonight!

Thanks! And congratulations to you on your play. Yours sounds like a more serious theatre company - ours is just a small-town community group. We usually go out to a bar after rehearsals - we say we're a bunch of drinkers with an acting problem...

What an absolutely great review! Shirts off, huh? Your agent lets you do *that* kind of theatre?

You should be very proud of yourself! I know I am.

Admittedly, I flash the least. (Which is a good thing, because my husband, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law are coming tonight!) But yeah, it's pretty funny: one woman takes off her dress (because an offstage baby vomits on her), revealing a sexy red camisole; I accidentally spill cognac on the shirt of the other woman, who takes it off to work on the stain; and then she gets pissed off at me and rips my shirt off. It was fun making a breakaway blouse! But we all cover up after a scene or two.

And that icon still cracks me up like whoa.

Cool! How many lines did you have to memories?
How long is it playing?

Wish I could see it.

We're doing it this and next weekend. It's about an hour fifteen minutes long, and I have...a lot of lines! I don't have a hard time memorizing lines, but I do find it hard to memorize my cues, and if one of the other actors drops my cue I'm not very good at improvising!

What is a "cues" exactly?

I wish you were doing it a lot longer .. so maybe I
could come to see it (I might make a trip
out to CO in the late summer for the GABF,
amoung other things).

Anyone make any MPEGS of it?
Those photos in the review aren't big enough
to tell much.

FYI: I'll be driving down to Cancun starting friday ...
be there Jan 7th ... can the good ship Windom pick me up and ferry me
back to the US of A? :-)

Oops, I meant to type:
what is a "cue" exactly?

Are they like little reminders which
help you remember what the next line is?

What I mean is that I know my lines, but not necessarily when to say them! And if someone says the wrong thing, I will flail trying to remember what to say.

Heh, have fun south of the border!

It's the icon I used for my movie reviews when I used to make them.

Not staged, either. I saw it while I was walking around Oakland. (Well, staged, but not staged for photography purposes, and not me.)

Acting! Brilliant! Thank you!

Yay! Good review! And... shirtless, even.

I miss doing community theatre/theater/whatever. Everything around here is too pretentious or nepotistic.

Actually it's a breakaway blouse that gets ripped half off me. We actually got a stage-combat teacher from the college to choreograph it.

Does Goddard still have MAD? I was involved with them when I worked there. It was a lot of fun - the only problem (for me) was that they do only musicals, and I can't sing. But I got to do Morgan Le Fey in Camalot, because she just dances and has some lines but doesn't sing. And I was in the chorus in Anything Goes, because when you're in the chorus you can suck. :-)

LJ just sent me this reply. *sigh*

Goddard does still have MAD... they are about to put on their annual holiday show. They still do lots of musicals, though their plays have been getting really good reviews. I haven't joined, even though some of my co-workers have pressured me about it. I've made a bit of a point to keep my social and 'afterschool' life away from Goddard. That could drive me insane.

Anything Goes remains one of my favorite musicals. I was in the chorus in a PG Co. summer production about a decade ago.

Lesbian bondage housewives! In that scene, the girl on my lap says: "I can picture them now, three homophobic golfers desperately trying to keep warm by rubbing up against each other," and when she says that she rubs her chest against mine and I get to roll my eyes and flinch and make squeaks of outrage. For some reason that gets a lot of laughs...
