new furniture

We have not done any significant work on the house remodel lately, but! We have bought more furniture! From the same place we got our awesome dining room table; this stuff is made from kikor (another kind of Indian rosewood) rather than shisham so the grain isn't quite as dramatic, but it's still really pretty. At least, I think so.

Very pretty furniture! I love the detailing on the headboard and footboard. And wow- it looks like nice, heavy stuff- I hope getting it up the stairs was uneventful and painless!

You would not believe how heavy this stuff is. Apparently they don't have things like pine and plywood in India - every bit of this furniture, even the parts you don't see, are this dense solid wood. The headboard alone probably weighs 140 pounds. Fortunately the guys who delivered the stuff carried it up to the bedroom.

Actually the headboard is kind of high and massive, in my opinion, but Britt really liked this stuff. I wanted something smaller and curvy. But I'm happy enough with this, and I really like the wood grain. Plus, it's "real" furniture from a local import store (and we've bought enough there that they give us a discount!) rather than hugely mass-produced veneered stuff from a big chain, which makes it a little more special to us. It ended up costing about half again as much as the big-chain stuff, but it's a lot better quality.

Beautiful! Isn't it wonderful to have matching furniture? Our bedroom set is the only one so far, but it really makes a difference!
