the rest of the 12 angry men story
May. 13th, 2006 10:52 amLast night we had a wake (and I ain't got sober yet...) and learned a little more information about the rights fiasco. It turns out that the publisher's website doesn't say, under 12 Angry Men, that performance rights have been withdrawn - but it does say on the front general page that performance rights may be withdrawn for any of these plays at any time. Our producer had assumed that since the play is over 50 years old and since we are not near any major city that a traveling show might visit, there wouldn't be a problem, so she didn't call to obtain the rights until just last week. Her fault; and now we have a company policy that rights must be obtained before rehearsals begin.
The rights have been withdrawn because 1) there will be a Broadway revival of the show this fall, and 2) Penguin books is republishing the script Sept 1.
Anyway, we are all still bummed. And hung over like whoa.

Date: 2006-05-14 01:07 am (UTC)12 Angry Men was nominated for three Tony Awards in 2005. I got to see it on my trip to New York and it was both well-acted and full of "That Guy!" actors, which was amusing.
Aha, it's the touring show that starts this fall. That makes slightly more sense WRT restricting performances.
Anyway, sorry for the bad coincidence of timing.

Date: 2006-05-15 05:48 am (UTC)I haven't gotten good and hung-over because of being
bummed in a long time.
I guess I haven't been trying very hard enough lately.
If you don't take risks, you don't ever loose,
and you never get bummed out, so you never
have a reason to get drunk because of it.
I guess I better think about applying to graduate school,
or asking some girl out, so I can get some rejection
so I can get bummed out and drink to much wine and beer.
Not that I don't drink way to much and gotten hung-over
every 6 months or so ... but that's from going to some
brewery or winery party, where they drown you in great booze ...
Which is a completely different hang-over than getting
drunk on cheap wine and feeling shitty the next day,
and trying to remember who you sent drunken e-mails to.
