I guess the next great adventure was when we bought the Sportsmobile, although so far we've only adventured a bit in Utah with it. (We are hoping to do a big Canada and Alaska trip in about a year and a half, though!) So this is the next next great adventure: we're going to New Zealand, and we're going to hike our butts off. (And also visit [livejournal.com profile] justjenineand gnat.)

I am not sure yet if I will try to update this journal or the Windom blog or what, or if I will try to do it in real time, but I might get some photos up at Flickr as we go and point to them from here. We're not bringing laptops (aie!!!)

Bon voyage. Try not to jump into any volcanoes.

And yes, I'm deeply, deeply envious.

Envy. Get your DOC permits now. Luckily, there are no drop-bears in the New Zealand forest, only wetas. And perhaps the Fiordland Moose (http://moose-facts.blogspot.com/2007/05/new-zealand-moose-story.html).

We are permitted for the Heaphy, Routeburn, and Kepler! And I shall not be too disappointed if I don't see a moose since I have seen them around here a couple of times.

Am so seriously envious!

And seriously looking forward to pix!

NZ is one of those special places I want to visit before I shuffle off my mortal coil!

No laptops? No connectivity? OMG 0.o

Wow, New Zealand is great!
Me and a friend did the Routeburn and Milford back in 1998.
We vowed to return ever year and do more ... but so far haven't
make good on that promise. :-)

One of these days ...

I remember your pictures! I remember you were on the Milford, didn't recall that you did Routeburn (which we are doing - along with Greenstone, and then also the Caples and Heaphy and, um, Dusky, I think?) And yeah, you should go again, it's been 10 years!

If you have any specific recommendations (your favorite beers?) let me know!

Its been so long, I can't remember anything specific to try
beer-wise there.

I remember one brew-pub in downtown Christchurch.
Probably a lot has changed tho in the past 10 years.

How long will you guys be there?
