ilanarama: a mountain (mountain)

We are home! Well, we have been home for a while, but I wanted to get more photos up before I posted here. Alas, our router is having serious health issues, so I only laboriously managed to upload 18 of the Ball Pass trek photos, but don't worry - there are about 6 more I want to put up, once the new one which we hope will not crash our link every time we try uploading large files, and then I shall work backwards (or perhaps randomly) and fill in the rest of the trip. ETA: 22 photos now up. I'll post links here, and when everything is up, I'll edit the links into the narrative posts, and make a final comprehensive index post. So basically, you have the choice of seeing things in dribs and drabs, or getting overwhelmed with it all in another couple of weeks or so. Or, you know, just not looking. But how can you resist stuff like this:

Mt. Cook peeks at us

Hee, it didn't look real when I was there. You have no idea - it's like, you're tramping along in the mist and clouds, and all of a sudden it clears a little and there is this HUGE MASSIVE MOUNTAIN COVERED IN ICE and who put that thing there?

Now that looks like a proper Death March. ;)

Glad to hear that you enjoyed yourself. Just as glad to hear that you got home safely...

Heh, this route has literally been so, but fortunately not for us.

Wow, that's an amazing photo. You could get it blown up and hung on your wall! It looks professional.

Ooh, thank you! (On behalf of Britt, who took this one.) You have to realize that we took roughly fifty zillion pictures, and I'm just putting the best/my favorites/the ones that tell the story on Flickr.

When my wife and I went Down Under, we took roughly 1500 photos. 187 ended up on our website from that trip.

When we went to Alaska, we took over 3000. Less than 300 hundred ended up in the album we created from that trip. (That one isn't online yet.)

My guess is when you get your connection working for the upload, I'll be travelling and be at the wrong end of a slow link until I get back in the fall.

Hee, we are only pretending to be hard core! But speaking of, check out The Kepler Challenge (http://www.keplerchallenge.co.nz/) - this is a 60km trail ultra on the trail we hiked here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/svwindom/sets/72157613958796960/) (and when I can upload again, I have lots more for that set). We did it in four days; the record is a little more than four and a half HOURS.

Wow, I can't decide if that looks like fun or pure craziness! Four and a half hours, holy crap.

I love trail running when I get the chance, but I think 60km of tough trail might do me in!

Thank you for sharing.

Hi Ilana, I just got a chance to view your photos. I love your photos. They are absolutely breathtaking. I will have to slowly read through and vicariously live through you. Welcome Home. Glad the trip went well. Now take care of that PF. Jackie (Hikergirl)
