So, um, I bought a straightening iron.

And for those of you who were wondering, beneath the cut is a picture of me with straight hair, and an older picture of me with my ordinarily wavy hair. (I don't think I have any recent photos with my hair down - mostly they are hiking pictures, and my hair's in a ponytail.) You may recognize the older photo as being from HOTT.BOB - I think that's Gary Heston in the background!

Well, whoa! That looks very nice (and you made me turn on my images here at work to take a gander). Did it take long to effect?

And, owie, your pun!

Well, it took Luca maybe 15 minutes. I haven't tried it for myself yet!

And you know me, I live for the pun.

I think you look great either way. You have a fabulous smile. The straightening stuff looks more "polished" -- which is nice, but for me it wouldn't be an every day adventure.

Okay, ssc -- BRUSHING MY HAIR isn't an everyday adventure.

Aw, thanks! And yeah, it definitely wouldn't be for every day, but I agree, it looks more sophisticated. I just thought it might be fun to do on occasion.

If I neglect to comb my hair every day, it quickly reaches the stage where it's only combable with a chainsaw.

You could get a perm! When I was in college I got spiral perms a few times. It made me look kinda like Roseanne Roseannadanna.

Also, it is impossible to tell which photo comes from 10 years ago. Way to stave off mortality.

Which straightening iron did you get? I've been contemplating getting one as I just don't seem to be able to do a good job of blow drying my hair. Back when I had a real job I used to plunk down the $$$ at a salon to get a "straight perm" done twice a year, which resulted in truly wash and go hair.

I got the "Remington Wet 2 Straight" which was about $30 - prices seemed to range between about $20 to $35 at the drugstore, and then there is the professional one [livejournal.com profile] saramwrap mentioned which was $100, so I thought that the high end of cheap seemed reasonable. This particular model can be used on either wet or dry hair, so it's sort of a combo iron-dryer, which I thought would be good because I rarely blow dry my hair.

And I'd think your hair would be naturally perfectly straight! I remember seeing you with a perm, though - don't remember if it was FROST.BOB or when we went to the museum that one time.

Once beyond a certain length my hair gets wavy enough to make people think I got a perm. Shorter than that it's straight but sticking out every which way. The straightening perm was great because it let me have long straight hair without having to blow dry or fuss with it in other ways.

You glamorous thing, you! Pictures of you always tend to be at such a difference that I never get to see your features as clearly as I'd like, so this is nice.

Wow, now we have the exact same hair curly AND straight! Your bangs are longer than mine, but otherwise, we have identical cuts.

The straightening iron is kind of fun, isn't it? Unlike blowdrying, which takes forever, it's just the work of a moment to smush every wave and corkscrew!

Hee. Now you know what I *really* look like.

I haven't tried out the straightening iron yet - that's the photo of when the hairdresser did it, which means I am never going to be able to duplicate it.

B-b-b-b-but you have Hermione hair! And now you've found Sleek-Easy!

You would not believe how much time I spend trying to get my hair to *not* be straight. Really, count your blessings! But it's nice to have the option, eh?

Heh. I just like the idea of being able to swap back and forth, because honestly, I was so stunned when I saw my hair straight that I wasn't sure I was the same person. I actually do like my wavy Hermione hair! But sometimes I want to go incognito.

When the hairdresser did it (that photo) it lasted two days - basically, until I washed it.

Your hair's even wavier than mine, though.

Yay! I think it's going to be a great winter :)

I get into town once a week or so..I'd really like to go fire it up this weekend, but funds are lacking. As usual. My main excitement usually consists of sitting at Magpies and reading the Telegraph. But I shall.

I'd love to go skiing, but I can't believe the prices. I miss my mountain back east..$18 night skiing 4pm-10pm..sigh..
